October Means Completion at DC, HS Creek Crossing and New Digital Projectors



The new classrooms at Delta Center are finished and in use. This view is down the new hallway and the classrooms are located to the left side. The lockers at the right are new additions and ensure that all DC students now have access to a locker.








The Grand Ledge High School Creek Crossing is now finished and in use. The new bridge provides improved safety including sidewalks on both sides, two-lane and two-way traffic as well as improved lighting.



Mr. Jim Dillon is tagging the new digital projectors before they are distributed.
This new instructional technology is possible through the 2007 Academic Bond. Now, every teacher at GLPS will have ready access to a digital projector.



Ms. Rebecca Odajima is signing out a digital projector for her classes in the band program at Beagle Middle School.

New Holbrook parking area


Parents who drive to Holbrook elementary - please use the new entry on Schoolcraft Street. The Jones Street drive will be for exits only. Thank you!

Wacousta Kitchen and Playground






The kitchen at Wacousta elementary is nearly finished. The construction is complete and the appliances are in place. Once the final check process is complete the serving line will open.
The new playground equipment is ready for the children to start school on Tuesday, September 2.

GLHS Creek Crossing



The Grand Ledge High School creek crossing is being constructed. In the pictures, the crane lifts precast pieces into place to form the bridge support.

Greenwood's cabinets and A/C units installed


In Greenwood classrooms the new vertical A/C units replaced the old unit ventilators. In the wall space left over from the old ventilators, cabinets were installed. The teachers will be able to use the space to store classroom materials.

Delta Center projects move onward




At Delta Center the new classrooms have ceilings and windows. The air conditioning units are being installed throughout the building.

Work on the four new classrooms at the high school continues. All schools will open September 2. The goal is to have the new projects completed as soon as possible. In the event that the new projects are not completed by the beginning of school, student education and services will not be affected.

Neff A/C units installed, carpet on floors




The vertical, air conditioning units are quieter and better for studying. They are also energy efficient and provide a better distribution of air in classrooms.
After the A/C units were installed, worn carpeting was replaced with new.

Delta Center Entrance


The parking area at the south end of Delta Center's traffic entrance is nearly ready for asphalt. The north end has been paved.

New windows at Delta Center

















New windows are being installed at select locations in Delta Center, Greenwood, Holbrook, Neff and Wacousta elementary schools. The windows pictured above are at Delta Center. The tinting will help to cut down on bright glare and when opened they provide a fire escape route. They have double panes of glass, making them energy efficient.

Wacousta kitchen progress





Using the crane in the picture, steel support beams were placed for the roof over the new kitchen space. Appearing to be painting, the workers were applying a moisture barrier on the blocks. Insulation and bricks will still be added to the exterior of the new area.

GLHS Creek Crossing work


Work has started at the high school's bridge that crosses the creek to get to Beagle MS and the ball fields. Sewer lines in the area had to be relocated before work on the new bridge can proceed.

Delta Center progress





The new classrooms at Delta Center have their interior walls built.
The parking area, under construction, at Delta Center is viewed from across Canal Road. A new island in the parking lot has been created.
  • New parking lot organization at Delta Center –

    The new Delta Center parking area will require everyone to learn about changes in the traffic flow.
  • The north end of the parking lot will be for parents dropping off their students and for parent parking.
  • The south end of the parking lot will have a lane for buses only. Staff will also park at the south end of the parking lot.

Holbrook parking area and A/C system progress




The area next to the current parking lot is prepared for a paved addition of approximately 36 parking spaces.
In classrooms and in the kitchen area, workers install the new A/C system. Greenwood, Neff and Delta Center elementaries are having the same A/C work done. (Willow Ridge and Wacousta have A/C systems in place.)

At the southeast corner of Grand Ledge High School, efforts are focused on building interior walls for the new classrooms.

Neff Elementary School can be seen across Jenne Street from the cleared area that will provide additional parking spaces for Neff parents.

At Neff's parking lot a chiller enclosure and pump room are built. The chiller unit stands ready to be placed in the new space.

Projects Advance in July




At Greenwood Elementary, old univents are removed from classrooms to prepare for new vertical air conditioning units. After this summer, A/C will be in all GLPS classrooms. The new units will be quieter (better for studying), more energy efficient and provide a better distribution of air in classrooms.
Ceiling work at Delta Center, Greenwood, Holbrook and Neff includes installing chilled water lines for the A/C system and some duct work.

Delta Center begins to look very different!


In the picture at the top, workers are focused on the area that was formerly paved and used as a play space for students at Delta Center elementary. Now that school is out for summer break, the foundation for the two new classrooms will be built here.
The site in the lower picture is just east of Canal Road. Here, the earth is being moved and mounded in preparation for expanding the parking area for the school.

Wacousta Elementary Construction



Work began in May near the foundation of Wacousta Elementary School in preparation for the kitchen addition. Workers are digging, moving dirt and placing drains.
